Not to long ago WordPress 3.0 Beta was released and made available for download. Being such a big part of many webmasters these days, a new revision of WordPress is always big news. So what is new in the new version?
Well the big changes so far are pretty neat and very welcome in many cases, anyway here they are:
Custom Menu
Allowing you to customise the way your menu looks to suit, plus some additional functionality.
WordPress and WordPress MU Merge
The features of WordPress MU have now been merged into WordPress, which hopefully means that when finished you’ll easily be able to add multiple blogs to your website with only the one install of WordPress. Apparently being labelled Super Admin.
New Default Theme
About time for this one I think, WordPress have added a new default theme which allows custom background and header options.
Changes to the WordPress Exporter and Importer
Changes are being made to the current WordPress Exporter and Importer to make it a little bit more flexible with what it can do.
Custom Post Types
A feature that is very welcome by many out there, if you a not aware of its potential, Konstantin talks about Custom Post Types in WordPress 3.0 on his blog, worth the read.
Apart from those more noticeable changes, they are cleaning up the code a little to speed WordPress up, making some minor improvements to the UI, and I’m sure plenty more before final release. It certainly is good to see Matt Mullenweg, although not alone, continually improving WordPress.
